Window Treatments for the Outdoors

Solar Blinds
Solar Screen Shades

Our homes aren’t just about the indoor spaces but about the outdoor ones as well. And one way to enhance our enjoyment of our favorite outdoor spaces is to enclose them with shades such as the patio shade line from Hunter Douglas. With these products, you can cut down on UV rays, add privacy to your space, and still have the ability to enjoy your view. Speak with a trained specialist at Blinds & Designs serving San Francisco. We’ll be happy to help you find the right product to extend the usefulness of your home’s space.

Heavy-Duty Solar Shades

The heavy-duty Outdoor Solar Shade in the Alustra® Collection of Woven Textures® are not meant to be used as a divider but add privacy and control the sun while lowered. They come in many textures and many opacity levels. All solar shades come standard with a wind-flex tie-down system that helps keep them in place during mildly inclement weather situations. However, if high winds or heavy rain is expected, they might need to be pulled up to protect them.

Places to Use Outdoor Shades

For added privacy, protection from the sun, and to create an outdoor “room,” you might use outdoor window treatments in areas such as:

  • Terrace
  • Patio
  • Balcony
  • Hot tub area

Tips for Outdoors Shades or Blinds

  • Color: Remember that your neighbors may not want to see your favorite color from their backyard. White is a good choice; black will blend into the evening, and neutrals will always work
  • Texture: If you choose a shade with a heavier texture, outdoor particles might stick to it. Test the sample to see whether leaves and debris stick to the fabric
  • View: If you have a patio with a view, be sure that you can see through the fabric to enjoy what you love to look at even when the blind is down
